Outdoor Rocking Chairs

As you no doubt know, you can't leave just any old rocking chair outdoors.  Elements like wind, rain, snow, and sun will deal daily blows to an indoor rocking chair until it is rendered rotted and rickety. This would not do, which leaves you with two choices.  Lug your indoor rocking chair outside and back inside every day, or buy an outdoor rocking chair.  If you think outdoor rocking chairs sound like the way to go, then this hub may be for you.  Of course, it's not as if an outdoor rocking chair will last forever -- just a lot longer in the elements than its indoor counterpart.  Outdoor rockers provide rest and respite, with the enjoyment of being outdoors.

Imagine a mellow evening, if you will, enhanced only by your outdoor rocking chair.

What makes a rocking chair an outdoor rocking chair? When it is made of materials and in a fashion that will last in the outdoors. What materials? Shorea wood, oak, grade A teak, white cedar, patio resin, and -- for the greener hearts among us -- models made of recycled plastic bottles or sustainable wood crops. What fashion? Log style, polyurethane coated (painted), thick (think beefy -- if you will). When you want to take a rocking chair outside, you want to be able to leave it. To be able to leave it, you need a rocking chair made in a way that will last. Look for the materials and construction given above and you should not have to worry about your chair lasting.

How long should an outdoor rocking chair last? The answer to this question will vary by the chair. In general, let's think more than five years, less than a lifetime. (Unless of course, you own a rocking chair made of some stable material that does not break down. Materials break down and need maintenance, where it can be reasonably applied. Nothing lasts forever. That is the reality.) So expect your chair's lifespan to be substantial, and be prepared to replace it one day.

When you buy an outdoor rocking chair seek one with style! You have a selection, you can even get custom. Available styles are many and include what we might call the classic rocker, more modern looks, two-seaters, log-style, metal-and-wood, and the list goes on as long as furniture makers' imaginations. Sticking with a natural, stained look -- or the typical colors like white or forest green -- is no requirement. You can find red chairs, yellow chairs, blue chairs -- there is even a chartreuse one available at RockingChairs.com. You can even find very modern styles painted black. There is no shortage of rockers available to match your specific outdoor decor. Just be sure to have a decor. It makes a difference.

If you are ready to shop for rocking chairs for the outdoors, you have a long list of places to find them. I might suggest you give the Cracker Barrel Restaurant and Country Store a try, if you live near one of the chain's locations. They sell a selection of outdoor rocking chairs. Another great offline option is to attend your state fair -- or a larger county one -- and peruse the wares of the exhibitors there. You will definitely find outdoor rockers at a large fair. Don't worry about having to take your rocker home the day of the fair. The exhibitor will offer the option of shipping or delivering it to you.

Online, your options are truly wide. You may have already assumed that eBay and Amazon would be good trampling grounds for seeking outdoor rocking chairs, and if so, you would be correct. Your available choices do not end there. In fact, RockingChairs.com has an exhaustive selection. There are in fact, a number of online rocking chair sellers. Those sellers include EveryRockingChair.com. With a name like that, who could have more outdoor rocking chairs than them?

As you shop, be sure to also get rocking chair pads. Some will need to be taken off when not in use. Some can be left out in the elements. All will help you use your outdoor rocking chair in comfort. And after all, comfort -- outdoor relaxation -- is the biggest reason you want an outdoor rocking chair.

I know comfort is important to me.

Thank you for this hub. I had wondering if I should purchase a few rocking chairs for our patio. Your hub has convinced me to go for it.
