5 Things You Might Love about the Honda Element

By Reg Brittain

When Honda's Element came into being several years ago, it was aimed at a young demographic. Soon, Honda realized a vehicular hit with just about every age group. Perhaps, this hub can shed a little light on the reasons.

1. Versatile Vehicle.

The Honda Element's seats can be folded into over 60 different configurations, which gives you something many vehicles lack. That something is vehicular versatility. When you drive an Element, you're driving a crossover with character.

2. It's Got the Look!

Speaking of character, Elements are eminently recognizable. No vehicle really looks like the Honda Element. And with each model year, Honda includes an exterior color in its selection that attracts attention as if the Element would cry alive, "Hey! All other autos, I am here, and I am square!"

3. Take It Camping!

Your Honda Element can be excessively accessorized. And to that end, there are tents you can add to your rig -- or even a snap-on camper if you choose. These items make the Element the most versatile mass-produced auto available in America today.

4. Millions of Honda Element Fans Can't Be Wrong.

You see these rigs everywhere -- that's as true today as it was after their introduction several years ago. On auto review websites, you will find throngs of Element fans.

5. Moonroof for Stargazers.

Few rigs come with a moonroof under which you can recline and enjoy the view. This is an available option for the Honda Element. Heck! If you order a moonroof and a sunroof, the Element really does look like a kitchen toaster, as many say.

A Word of Caution.

Ultimately, the reason my wife and I shied from the Element was the back seats. These seats are jump seat-like. Perhaps, they are comfortable for smaller people, but I imagined when I was testing them that riding in the rear of an Element for five miles would be a chore. If you want a rig for your active gear, or whatever cargo you possess, the Element will surely get you where you need to go. If you want a vehicle of similar size and function but more comfortable for guests, I vote for the Scion xB (which we own).

Secondly, I have read in multiple places online that the Element's stock tires wear down quicker than most, so be advised.

All-in-all, the Element is surely worth a test drive.
